WHAT DO THE MUSICIANS SAY ABOUT MY CELLOS<\/p>\n<\/div>

My instruments are played daily by musicians in, among others, the Norwegian Opera & Ballet, the Norwegian Broadcasting Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and students at most music institutions in Norway. In addition to many freelancers and teachers throughout the country. A cello and a violin have been purchased by Dextra Musica, and are lent to music students at the Norwegian Academy of Music. Helgelandsfondet has bought a violin that is lent to local talents.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

“I contacted Jacob in autumn 2021 as I was looking for a better instrument than the one I had during my studies and first 10 years as a professional cellist. After trying some of his earlier instruments I decided to buy.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

I first owned a Jacob von der Lippe cello made by his apprentice Vik Vandamme (2022) which I was actually very happy with, but was surprised by how much better the instrument made by Jacob von der Lippe himself is. I therefore quickly decided to upgrade to this beautiful instrument when it was completed the following year.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

The cello has a volume that easily fills everything from church rooms and concert halls to auditoriums and gymnasiums. The sound is big and “crispy” throughout the register. I really like the opportunity the instrument gives to be able to give the sound different intensity, color and nuances. It’s not the modest kind either: played half a concert before I realized the cello’s mic was off, but there was still good enough punch from the cello to compete with the PA, just a little weaker sound than normal.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

It’s wonderful to come to work with an instrument that responds as you want and I feel that the cello gives out what I put in; be it warmth, intensity or tonal nuances. The fingers run easily over the strings and the bow gives an immediate response, you don’t have to wait for the resonance when you start the bow. It actually applies to the entire register from the deepest bass tones on the C string to the brightest on the A.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Jacob is very welcoming, pleasant and service minded. He always meets you with a smile and a good cup of coffee in his workshop. It feels very reassuring to buy an instrument where, in the completion of the cello, you can have a say in how you want the instrument to function in everyday concert life. Jacob is also good at following up with both cello and cellist and is more than happy to answer questions.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

I was looking for an instrument that could meet my need for great sound, and the opportunity to vary both sound and style, as I play over a hundred concerts for The Cultural Schoolbag annually, meet many very different concert stages, and the music genres range from baroque to hip-hop. In addition, I have a number of solist<\/span><\/i>engagements. The cello meets all my musical needs and can be warmly recommended.”<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

“I first met Jacob in Kristiansand in 2008. I was there to teach the cello group in Orkester Norden, and Jacob came to give a lecture on violin construction and how to maintain a stringed instrument. He brought a cello he had built and I got to try it out. I liked Jacob as a person and there was something nice in the sound of the cello.<\/em><\/p>\n

A few years later there was a documentary on Finnish TV about Jacob von der Lippe, a young talented violinist from Norway who studied in Cremona. I became very interested in him and his instruments, and I started following him on social media. Today, his instruments are built from wonderful wood and the lacquer is exquisite. <\/em><\/p>\n

In the period October\/November 2021, I saw on social media that he was going to start building a new cello. I noticed the wood and asked him if he would give me an opportunity to try the cello before it was sold. After seeing many photos from the construction process, I flew to Oslo to try the cello at the end of June 2022. I was very excited when Jacob opened the door to his workshop and I saw the cello live for the first time. After a nice chat with Jacob, maybe even a cup of espresso, I got to hold the cello. This cello is a true beauty. I love the golden lacquer which really brings out the texture of the beautiful wood. And the cello is so beautifully built by Jacob. Taking the first coats was a very positive surprise for me. I was really surprised, the sound was very powerful and open. I had never experienced that with a newly built cello and this cello was brand new, Jacob had finished it the night before. I had the pleasure of testing the cello in different premises in Oslo. I quickly adapted to this beautiful cello and decided to buy it. The plan was not to buy it, I was just going to fly to Oslo to try the cello and then decide if I wanted to order a cello from Jacob, but I wanted this particular cello. <\/em><\/p>\n

Now, after playing the cello for 3 1\/2 months, the sound has become warmer and deeper. It has a very clear core in the sound and it projects very nicely into the hall. The cello responds quickly and has a lot of power when needed. The sound is very even from the low C to the highest positions on the A string. The cello still changes a little every day, as if it has a will of its own. This is of course because it is still brand new and because the climate is getting drier and drier, winter is just around the corner. <\/em><\/p>\n

It is very exciting and interesting to see what will happen to this wonderful cello and how it is going to turn out, but I have great expectations of it.<\/em><\/p>\n

It is a great every day pleasure to play this wonderful and extremely beautiful cello.<\/em><\/p>\n

The cello I bought from Jacob von der Lippe, is just the way I wanted; rich in overtones and a lot of bass. It suits my playing style well, and is a worthy successor to my old instrument that has followed me since student days. Over 75 musicians at home and abroad are today very satisfied owners of their von der Lippe instruments. There are many benefits to acquiring a new instrument; you characterize the sound with your own personality, the instrument is fresh and healthy, and you get follow-up throughout the instrument’s lifetime. This is easy to forget when buying a new instrument, but in the long run it is something my customers really appreciate.
