W. E. Hill & Sons cello bow

Arthur John Barnes

Cello bow from the renowned firm WE Hill & Sons in London (1880-1992), they had many highly skilled bow makers at work. This is a lovely example from A.J. Barnes in the finest pernambuco. 5 cm from the tip, the bow has a mark in the stick. This does not affect the function, and is only a cosmetic detail that must be expected in an older bow (see pictures below). It was there when the current owner bought the bow in 2012. The bow has just had new hairs and is otherwise in very good condition.

Cello bow made by Arthur John Barnes in the period 1919-39, stamped W.E. H&S. The bow is mounted in silver/ebony and weighs 79 grams.
