Cello, Vik Vandamme – Roeselare 2025
Construction start January 2025, completion May/June 2025
It is with great pleasure that I continue my collaboration with the talented violin maker Vik Vandamme. He worked in my workshop in 2019, and will build this cello for me during the winter/spring of 2025, based on my well-proven personal cello model. The cello is built from well-stocked materials from my extensive inventory; Italian Alpine spruce, a beautiful solid poplar back, European flame maple sides and a maple neck that is elegantly joined to the willow fingerboard.
The cello will be built in Vik’s workshop in Belgium under close supervision of the undersigned. He will also varnish the cello with my own oil varnish in addition to rigging it up ready to play. This is the instrument for those who want the taste of a von der Lippe cello, but at a very nice price. Five Norwegian cellists already enjoy cellos made by Vik every day. See the previous cello Vik built in 2024 , a “twin” to this one.
Please contact jacob@vonderlippe.com if you are interested in this cello, or have any questions.

The materials for this particular cello are ready in Vik’s workshop.

Sound is the true reason for making instruments. In this recording the focus is on sound itself. Can a characteristic of sound be heard among instruments created by the same log of spruce and the hands of one specific violin maker, even if played by different instrumentalists? How do vastly different venues highlight various aspects of the same instruments? And how about the development of one violin maker through a span of twenty years?
