Violin made by Vik Vandamme, Roeselare – 2024

“Never change a winning team” is what it says in good Norwegian.

It is again with great pleasure that I present my collaboration with the talented Belgian violin maker Vik Vandamme. He worked under my guidance in my workshop five years ago, and during the winter/spring of 2024 he made this violin for me. This is the sixth violin he has built based on my own personal “von der Lippe” model, and all are played daily by delighted Norwegian musicians and music students.

The violin is built from first-class wood; Italian alpine spruce with “bear claw”, a lovely European flamed maple back with matching ribs and neck. Once again, it’s nice to see how Vik’s style comes out in this violin, which he has also varnished with his own oil varnish based on the same recipe that I use. The violin has a Corene fingerboard (a sustainable alternative to ebony) and Knilling Planetary tuning pegs. Forget pegs that lose their grip or snap. That time is over.

The violin is set up by Vik under my guidance with Evah Pirazzi strings, and has a warm and full tone that projects well. This is the instrument for those who want the taste of a von der Lippe violin at a very competetive price.

The violin was sold after a short time to a young violin talent in Western Norway.
